Full featured sample apps and source for "raw" MVVM RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am looking for sample apps and source code that will illustrate MVVM without a framework. Eventually I am sure I will work my way to MVVM Light, etc but I want to give myself a solid grounding and so want to spend some time working with the "primitives" of MVVM.

Many of the books or online references for "non-framework" MVVM are pretty scanty. Most illustrate the basic principles of binding, notifications, etc but pay lip service to how I can approach the view, viewmodel and model in the real world.

But I haven't found a "real" app yet - one that doesn't just show the basic principles (often stopping at "read only" and navigation-based examples) but goes on to show the writing of data from the view through to the model. Basically, I am looking for a reasonably well-rounded app tackles the issues that most shipped apps would need to address.

Any pointers would be most appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Williams,

It’s hard to find the full featured sample app for MVVM. I think there is less people are willing to upload their whole project to internet. That is why you will see more projects with basic principles. But I think it’s time to practice when you understand MVVM. You can also find more MVVM project from codeplex. Find those projects with different types, like WPF, ASP.NET MVC, etc. they’re similar with each other and you can get some Inspiration from them.

  • Thank you for the response. I don't think I asked my question very well. I wasn't looking for source commercial apps or where there's any significant IP. I was just looking for something with a little more functionality than the rather common MVVM intro apps that tend to focus so much on the concept of notifications that they only really covering "read-only"-type apps. What I wanted was something with a bit more of a round trip, including the addition of records and persistence in a database.

A step in the right direction is this document, which seems to have been published only recently: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/hh286405(v=vs.105).aspx

    Thanks again.
