aspnet_regiis.exe, The application failed to initialize properly

My machine had .NET Framework 2.0 SP2, 3.0 SP2, 3.5 SP1. Recently enabled IIS 5.1 and tried to run aspnet_regiis from C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727 by command prompt and got an alert message "The application failed to initialize properly"

What is the switch you used with aspnet_regiis?

I guess you may get better chance to be answered in http://forums.iis.net/ for IIS problems.

On the other hand, you may try repairing/reinstalling the .NET framework on the machine.

Hi Figo Fei,

With or without switch I'm getting this error message.

I have uninstalled all the .NET Framework and reinstalled 2.0 SP1, 3.0 SP1, 3.5, it's working fine.

BUT when I installed 3.5 SP1 it's also installing 2.0 SP2, 3.0 SP2, then onwards I'm facing this problem. But to work with latest silverlight applications I need to have .NET 3.5 SP1

Is there specific error code shown when this happens like 0x000... something like this

Also there can be one common reason..

Is your system completely protected from viruses....check to scan your system ...i m afraid to say this but this might be the worst case

Is there any problem to install .NET Framework 3.5 sp1 on your machine? What is your Windows version?

No issues while installing .NET 3.5 SP1. Main problem arising after the installation. once the installation is done when I tried to run aspnet_regiis.exe getting the alert message. Mine is Windows XP Professional

This thread resolved my problem...

Main thing that worked for me is...

“sc config sysplant start= disabled”

and reboot...
