Windows Server 2012 R2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • This may be the wrong place to post, but the forum list does not include Windows Server 2012 R2.

On the download page for evaluation of Windows Server 2012 R2, there is a selection combo that includes three choices.

Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter ISO

Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter VHD

Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter on Microsoft Azure

What is the difference between them?

We are attempting to create a custom template image for a Remote App.  The instructions at http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/remoteapp-create-custom-image/ say that Windows Server 2012 R2 must be installed, along with RDSH and Desktop Experience.  The above three downloads are huge, and the instructions for installation say that the VHD needs to be at least 32 Gb ( in https://technet.microsoft.com/library/dn303418.aspx ).

What is really needed?  We simply want to deploy 4 applications to Azure to allow a user to run them as Remote Apps.  It seems strange that a local VHD of 32 GB + user app space is needed for the 4 apps that take up less than 5 Mb of disk space on a local machine.
