Recurring issue when redeploying app through VS

    Question

  • This issue has been here from the start with all apps, include SDK sample apps. If I deploy and run an app, then uninstall it from the start menu, make changes to the code (or not) and try to redeploy, I almost always get the error :

Error 1 Error DEP0500 : Cannot delete the folder "C:\Users\userme\AppxLayouts\2fda7400-917c-4b21-ae07-4ae3046937edBVS.Debug.AnyCPU.userme" for the following reason:
The process cannot access the file 'Thumbs.db' because it is being used by another process. Application1

Killed all processes to remove any lock on the file, turned off antivirus, closed all open explorer windows, no success. I know this is a know issue that's been reported to MS teams in other forums.

Found a workaround other than restart Windows : in the manifest change package name (ID) to have a fresh deploy.
