GetMailTips returns weird characters RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I'm calling GetMailTips web service and get the OOO message back from Exchange 2013.

For some reason gmResponse.ResponseMessages[0].MailTips.OutOfOffice.ReplyBody.Message always starts with this

    <div>&#65279;<style>

I can obviously delete it, but I'm curious where it comes from and if there may be other weird characters coming back.

    Thank you.

  • #65279 is the Unicode Byte Order Mark (U+FEFF) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byte_order_mark its a valid character that the client that is consuming the Text Stream should process appropriately. Its optional and usually not present so its most likely because the user has cut and pasted some text that has brought the character into the OOF message.
