Workflow not running?

    Question

  • I created a workflow in SPD to name a file on submit with a "name - #". Each new file the # increases by 1 based on the "ID" field.

It worked fine until I name some changes in Infopath on an unrelated field. Initially I was trying to do the naming in Infopath using rules and could never get it to work.

Do I have to make changes to the data submit data connection in Infopath so that the naming comes from the SPD workflow?

  • OK, I get it now. However, I'm not sure why you're going through all this. Why not use the OOTB title for the form and use the SIR column separately? You could either make it a calculated column to = "SIR" + ID+1, or you could query the library in InfoPath to get the number, then set the SIR field's value to SIR + ID+1 using a rule.

  • When you say you workflow isn't running... do you have a screenshot or a failure message? Did you check the workflow for errors?

Here also and article you can reference to double check with.

  • There are no errors with the workflow itself. The error comes when I try to submit the form. I originally created a submit data connection in Infopath and tried to do the auto filename there. When that didn't work I was able to do it in SPD. The submit data connection is still in IP. Should I delete it?

  • Hi enegron- I'd check your InfoPath submit options and make sure they're set to just submit to a SharePoint list. Remove any other customizations. Don't delete the connection. Then run your rule inspector and design checker to see if there are any conflicts.

  • This is what my data connection looks like. The workflow above does not rename the file ass it should.

  • It's hard to help you not knowing exactly how everything is set up. I assume you're not using the RetrieveIDs data connection? I'd delete it then. Provide more details on the steps you took in InfoPath when you tried to make it work through there. Also let us know how you set up the workflow- what is SIR Number, a text field?

  • SIR Number is the custom column name I used for the title column. I was able to get the SPD workflow to work by recreating the submit data connection in Infopath using the default file name of "form". I then went and republished the IP form first then the SPD workflow.

When a new file is created it saves it as "Form". Upon refresh it runs the workflow and renames it "SIR - #"

    Initial submit:
