System requirements for Team Foundation Server Trial RRS feed

  • Question

  • I do not have a Windows server. I have a Linux server, and a 16GB 3.4 GHz Win10 desktop which more than meets the hardware requirements. I want to test the trail version but I wanted to know if either of my systems were compatible.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/vsts/tfs-server/requirements says TFS 2017, can be installed on Win10 home while it is not recommended. TFS on a desktop doesn't support Sharepoint, which we don't use, and TFS Proxy which I am not sure if we will use.

My team is onsite with less than 25 users.

Will a desktop make for a good trail platform? Will a desktop work well as a server?

Can I install TFS on a Linux server?

  • Hi ctam,

    >> Can I install TFS on a Linux server?

As my knowledge, Windows are the only platforms supported by Team Foundation Server. We just could access Team Foundation Server from Linux use Team Explorer Everyewhere.

This is the download link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30661

In addition, I suggest you could use VSTS (Visual Studio Team Services) instead of TFS, VSTS have most features of TFS. It does not need to install, just register the account to be able to use.

For more information about VSTS, please refer to following docs:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/vsts/user-guide/what-is-vsts

Thanks for your understanding and support.

    Regards,
