Having trouble connecting to Azure Analysis Services using both Power Query on Excel 2013 and ADOMD.Net RRS feed

  • Question

  • Having trouble connecting to Azure Analysis Services using both Power Query on Excel 2013 and ADOMD.Net. Have been able to connect using SSMS and Power BI using Integrated Azure AD authentication.

The error seen from ADOMD.NET reads like the following :

accessing_ws_metadata_exchange_failed: Accessing WS metadata exchange failed ---> System.Net.WebException: The remote server returned an error: (400) Bad Request.

Similar error is seen when attempting from Excel 2013 using Power Query.

Are there any additional steps to be taken when connecting to the Azure Analysis Tabular cube using a connection string other than username and password? Help is appreciated.

  • Hi Mahesh - sounds like you may need to download/install the latest MSOLAP provider/ADOMD library...

  • Hi Bill,

I have verified that I am using the latest version of client libraries downloaded from the links you mentioned above. I still see the same issue.

Besides, if I were using an older version, the error I see would have been "Connection string not in the correct format." before anything else.

Is it required that I install any other dependencies?

    Thanks,

    Mahesh
