Azure DataMarket to retire on March 31, 2017 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Just received the subject email from MS.
I have two DataMarket data services.
Any suggestions for a transition from a DataMarket data service to some type of an Azure MarketPlace service?
I find the information for publishers to be sparse, vague, or very less than intuitive.
There doesn't seem to be any specific/detailed guidance in the publishing portal (https://publish.windowsazure.com/workspace/) as to the types of publications, e.g. developer services.
Is there a type of Azure MarketPlace publication which translates nearly as possible to a DataMarket data service?

  • Hello Mike,

    Greetings from Microsoft Azure.

As per my understanding, the email you have received in regards to Azure Marketplace might be indicating that the webpage: https://datamarket.azure.com/browse/Data will be retiring and you will need to use the webpage: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/marketplace/ in future.

However, in order to get more clarity, please provide the email you have received so that I can check and confirm.

    Regards,

    Sapna Girish

  • To clarify ... I am a DataMarket publisher with two offerings.  I am NOT a Datamarket customer seeking information about using an offering. I am looking for specific information and guidance regarding transitioning my offerings from Azure DataMarket to Azure MarketPlace.

Here is the first paragraph of the email MS sent me:

Because you’re a valued publisher, we wanted you to be the first to know of some upcoming changes. Since the launch of DataMarket in 2010, we’ve introduced two new marketplaces that are having more mainstream momentum and benefit for customers and publishers alike: Azure Marketplace (launched in July 2014) and AppSource (for SaaS business apps, launched in July 2016). Going forward, we’ll be focusing our efforts on these two marketplaces in order to best serve the community. As such, we’ll be retiring DataMarket on March 31, 2017.

  • Does closure of the DataMarket mean that Microsoft is also removing access to its own APIs on the service, like the Groove API?

  • As mentioned in the link provided by you, DataMarket and Data Services are being retired and will stop accepting new orders after 12/31/2016. Existing subscriptions will be retired and cancelled starting 3/31/2017. Please reach out to your service provider for options if you want to continue service.

Hence, you may check the Support section in the below link for more details:
