    Hi,

I am new to .net and i was advised by my peer that we need to download "Visual Studio 2005 Web Deployment Projects" software from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/asp.net/aa336619.aspx.

Can anyone please tell what is the need of this software. what difference it will make. and what is the use of MSBuild folder. Is it necessary to have the folder?

Questions may be simple, I am asking curiously.

    Thanks,

    Senthil.

    Hi,

The Web Deployment project is designed to precompile ASP.NET, merge assemblies and copy the Output to specified location, such as host server.  Web Deployment Project also enables you to manage build configuration and tasks such as specifying changes for the application's Web.config file during compilation, changing connection strings, creating virtual directories, etc. You can right click Web Deploy project from Solution Window and select "Open Project File" to check its contents.

Without it, you can use Aspnet_compiler.exe command line to precompile ASP.NET project. Essentially, Web Deployment project invokes this command line. For more information about Aspnet_compiler.exe, see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms229863%28VS.80%29.aspx

Web Deployment project is easy to use and has rich GUI.

For more information, you also can refer to ASP.NET Deployment Overview (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb398992.aspx).<!---->

I look forward to receiving your test results.

    Thanks for the immediate reply.

I have gone through the URL which you mentioned.

Now i could understand more than what i was able to, and my question still is what is the need of web deployment software. what is the role its playing in a web application project? Is it not possible to do the deployment without that?

    Please advise.
