Kinect always on RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi!

I have a kinect application that I would like to be turned on all the time. Will this damage the kinect in any way, perhaps by overheating?

    Thanx

  • Mike,

We have a couple of Kiosk-style Kinect applications that are always up and running here in MSR and things have gone pretty smoothly. As mentioned in the readme (http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/redmond/projects/kinectsdk/docs/readme.htm) section about "Protecting Your Kinect Sensor While Experimenting": "The Kinect sensor is protected from overheating by a fan, which is controlled by the sensor's firmware and turns off the camera at 90 degrees Celsius". That being said, keeping Kinect always on will increase its wear and tear, like for any other hardware device.

    Good luck!
