  • Of course. Just format the Windows 8 64 bit system and build a XPe image on that box. If you do that, it is impossible.

    Hi,

what I want is to install the XPe development tools on a Windows 8 64bit box.

    is that possible?

  • Yes. My system is Windows 8 64 bits and I have WES2K9/XPe development tool(Target Designer) in my system now. So I am sure it is possible.

  • Yes, it is possible. I have the tools running in Windows 7. You should be using WES2009 and make sure to use SQL Express that comes with the tools. Avoid using MSMQ that originally came with XPe.

For XPe, here is an old article for vista, but some still apply's: http://www.annabooks.com/Articles/Articles_XPE/XPe%20on%20Vista%20notes.pdf

  • hi,

a little follow up on this.

I can't get it to work.

MSSQL express2005 is running, even made a ODBC connection that connects to the server with out problems.

I followed Sean's article, but none of the XPe tools could connect to the database.

CDM gives me an error, something like" could not connect to database. make sure server is running or end other exclusive connection"

    what am I doing wrong?

  • hello again,

digged a little deeper into this, and found out that I needed to run the programs as administrator.

  • I just spent a day trying to rebuild my wes2009 toolkit.

2k12 R2 server (hey, it was lying around)

    sql 2012 express

It works fine, but some update somewhere hoses my image and UPDD will hang on install. So I need to work out how to **DEFINITELY NOT UPGRADE COMPONENTS**
