What does USB and HID register keys mean ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\HID

    HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB

I don't understand the purpose of those register keys:

it doesn't have a lot of info to give, only the USB name, and not all my USB device connected.

At least, the keys found in

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout

are useful to change they keyboard layout

  • Those keys are used by the PnP manager to remember the settings for devices. There is nothing in there that you need to change, and most/all are protected to keep you from breaking your system.
