Want vc++ 2015, vs community download taking forever

    Question

  • Hi,

Im looking to get visual c++ and winSDK for development. Ive tried installing vs2015, but the download is going too slowly (should it really take all day to install a single software?). Ive also tried installing the winSDK, which after installing .net, installs fine. However, I cant read the documentation for api referance because it apparently cant find ms-xhelp.

Looking on Google, its indicated to use the help viewer, you must install vs2015. hence my problem, I cant get it to download in a reasonable time.

In the past, I have downloaded a vs iso and installed from there, but it seems that these days, they want you to do it via a feed and the waiting begins..

all I want is vc++ and winSDK with referance manual. Any ideas other than giving up?

  • I tried downloading visual studio express today. started at 10:30, still going at 6:45. Surely this is unreal.

Sounds like a poor internet connection, most likely at your end. I download from Microsoft fairly frequently, and since I have a fibre-optic link, the downloads are very fast, so I know the Microsoft servers are pretty high-end.

Try speed.net to analyze your connection.

  • Hi SpectreOnline,

The VS download time depends on your network connection.

To eliminate internet variables, I suggest that you download the ISO, verify the SHA-1 to ensure the ISO is not corrupt, then install locally.
VS 2015 iso Microsoft official download link:
    https://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/downloads/download-visual-studio-vs.aspx
VS 2015 iso files SHA-1 Values link:
    https://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/downloads/visual-studio-2015-iso-sha1-vs.aspx

PS: To make sure whether your package is corrupted or not,
please use FCIV.exe http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841290  to verify hash of the ISO.
Any discrepancy would indicate that the file was corrupted. Here is a blog for how to use it, you can refer to it.

Besides, in order to narrow down the problems of VS setup, there are some tips about installing VS:
    1. Disable anti-virus or anti-spyware software.
    2. Check windows update.
    3. Clear %TEMP% folder.
    4. Run the installer as administrator.

    Best Regards,
