dbghelp.dll versions since Windows 7 SDK RRS feed

  • Question

  • It seems like there is an inconsistency in the version number sequence being used on the dbghelp.dll library that ships with the debugging tools since Windows 7 SDK was introduced.

Information seems to be lacking in explaining the variation and this page has not been updated since 2010. Is there somewhere I can find some clarification on the recent versions of dbghelp.dll?

    Thanks

  • I'm also getting confused by this. The version in the Windows 8 SDK I have is 6.2.9200.20512 (dated 7th September 2012) - but according to the link you cite (which I had also found) the latest version is 6.12, and 6.2 dates back to 2003!

This is certainly very confusing. Has 10 been arbitrarily subtracted from the minor version number of this DLL (thus meaning that there are two different versions both called 6.2 and separated by nine years), I wonder.
