Unable to use WebView for some websites.

    Question

  • Hi,

We are developing a Windows 8 desktop app for Kiosk.
Some controls in some of the websites(Bank sites) do not work if we try to open them in WebView inside our app.
The same controls work fine if the website is opened outside (Internet explorer).
As a result of this, we are forced to take the user outside the app.

    In msdn Library, http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/windows/apps/br227702,
It is given that WebView always uses Internet explorer in document mode.
Does this mean WebView cannot be used as normal browser?

The requirement for me is never to take the user outside the app, same time i should be able to open the websites.
Could you please help me in this regard.

  • WebView is indeed Internet Explorer. But it doesn't support plugins (SilverLight, Flash) or ActiveX controls. So some sites will not function inside WebView.

    There's more info here.
