Simple Printer Driver RRS feed

  • Question

  • I believe I need to implement a simple printer driver.

    1) The driver needs to be installed on a Windows machine.

    2) The user would select this simple printer driver using the standard Windows interface.

    3) From a web page or other application a user would select to print a page.

    4) The driver would take over and get the contents of the page or the name of the file being printed.

    5) The driver would write the information into a folder.

    After that is done, a separate service would process the information in the folder.

    Nothing would be printed to a physical printer or device.

    Please suggest an approach and / or sample code.

    Thanks for your help;

  • You don't say which version of Windows or what type of data you are trying to capture, so answering this is hard.  I am not a printer driver expert, but have you looked at the Generic Text-Only Driver sample in the Windows 8.1 WDK?   If all you want to do is capture text this will do it.
