Unknown USB 3.0 port detected. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a new pc with Intel USB 3.0 extensible controller (motherboard is this one http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4994#ov ), I have tried everything to get the Kinect 2 cam for Windows recognised but it never works. It appears under "other devices" in the device manager with 2 things: MS Kinect Audio and MS Kinect Camera and an exclamation mark next to each.   The Configuration Verifier always shows an exclamation mark and warning for usb controller saying unknown usb 3.0 port and the next stage fails to find a connected Kinect. I have tried without any usb stuff plugged in, all of the ports in all combinations, but nothing gets it to work. Im afraid basically that it will never work now, but I thought I'd ask just in case, I presume you can just send these things back if they don't seem compatible, real shame though I got a brand new pc and windows10 specifically for this. Is there anything else I can try? I have gone through pretty much every hit on google. My last chance could be to buy a laptop that might work with it but I'm worried that too wouldn't work.

    Thanks!

  • your usb controller needs to be either intel or renesas. it's probably asmedia (or other).  if its not one of the two, no dice.

You can buy an adapter card that will plug into pcie, will only be around $30.

  • Any progress on this issue? Looks like you said you have an Intel USB 3.0 controller. From what I have read there should not be an issue if you have Intel controller

Did you install the Intel chipset drivers? http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4994#dl

I read some posts about people who succeeded either by installing new drivers, or they removed the new drivers and reverted to MS drivers, etc.

Also might try front panel vs back panel ports.

Personally I am waiting for a USB 3.0 PCIe card to arrive. In the meantime I'm able to use the Kinect v2 on my Asus UX501, which has an Intel USB 3.0 controller. Under Kinect Configuration Verifier, it states: "Supported USB 3.0 port detected with unknown bandwidth. Kinect may or may not be compatible with your hardware." The driver in "Computer Management > Universal Serial Bus controllers" is listed as "Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 1.0 (Microsoft)". If you see a different name for the controller (or no USB 3.0 controller) maybe try uninstalling and installing a different driver?

  • Well, Im back (I had to use new forum identity, couldnt actually get back in on old one). I went and bought an asus ux303 laptop, kinect didnt work, I was sure it would, intel chips etc. So then I bought a Renesas usb 3.0 pcie controller card for my desktop pc (which already had intel as described above but didnt work) and guess what, STILL doesnt work.  Ive spent all day trying to get it to work with my pal James, but we have had zero luck :-( When I run the verifier tool it still has a yellow exclamation mark next to USB Controller and says "unknown usb 3 port detected". It is as if the tool doesnt even look for my pcie card (which is  this one http://www.galileo.com.tw/7-012.html ), I dont know really, almost ready to give up. Ultimately I have bought 2 brand new pcs (both with intel usb 3 controllers), upgraded to win10, bought a renesas controller card (which appears to be the exact one recommended), all in the aid of trying to get the kinect going, but it simply refuses to admit the usb controllers are compatible, every time. So Im at a loss now, I have no idea what to do next. Here is a screengrab of my set up https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4194619/Snap%202016-04-13%20at%2017.09.17.png
