What does "Sort by Noteworthy" really mean? RRS feed

  • Question

  • The order of apps in the Store has the greatest impact on purchases/downloads (those at the top are more likely to get downloaded the most). And the default Sort in the Store is "Sort by noteworthy".

Can we hope for some transparency in how Sort by Noteworthy is calculated? Is it a combination of average rating, number of downloads, number of purchases? Are downloads of _updates_ included in the algorithm? What is the weight of each variable in the algorithm?

At this time, it doesn't seem like the sort is correct by the way - for example, Fruit Ninja is listed pretty far down the list, but given the number of Reviews and brand name, this App should be right at the top.

It would also be great to have some transparency on how apps are featured on the main Category Page of the Store. These details caused much angst and frustration on the Windows Phone Marketplace and it would be great to avoid these issues on the Windows 8 Store.

    Thanks for the help,
