modifying web.config manifest entries RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a business layer dll and I want my web farm to all use the current version. I have several features which use the same dll.

All of the wsp's have used the -gacdeployment flag.

Can I modify the web.config manifest entry for this dll through code? I beleieve I can, but I'm just trying to verify.

Or is there a better way to specify a dll in the GAC that doesn't compare the key and only verifies the version number of the dll?

  • You need the Public Key Token in the GAC, because this forms the check against the digital signature used to sign the assembly.

If you want to make modifications to the web.config in a SharePoint environment then it is recommended you use the SPWebConfigModifications class as part of the SharePoint API, as this will ensure your changes are replicated across all machines in the SharePoint farm.
