  • Hi ujla,

    Welcome to the MSDN forum.

What’s your VS 2010 version like ultimate, premium….

    >> "an exception has occurred, see in event log"

Could you please check the windows event log and share the detail error message in here, that will help us to know the root cause of this failed installation.

It looks like you meet this issue during the installation of the Help document, did you install it through online or the local document? Please have a look at this similar issue: https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/71164d7e-af0d-419c-a560-edf15cb34e66/problem-with-install-content-from-online-in-help-library-manager-10?forum=devdocs and you can check the Microsoft online doc services is up or if you have a DVD of VS 2010 setup you can simply install local documentation from that and save yourself the 1.x GB of download. The Local documentation is stored on the DVD in the \ProductDocumentation\ folder.

    To install local help:

    1. Run Help Library manager (Help menu of VS 2010 Setup)

    2. Click "Install content from disk"

    3. Browse to x:\ProductDocumentation\HelpContentSetup.msha

    4. Select and install all local packages

Meanwhile, please check this: http://mshcmigrate.helpmvp.com/faq/init and it lists the way to install help documentation and some troubleshot steps, that may be helpful for your issue.

    Best regards,

    Sara
