SQL Server 2005 (back end) and Access (front end) compatibility to Virtual Environments RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have just converted our application from Access VBA Jet Database to a SQL Server 2005
back end. We are going to be migrating our existing clients to the new platform over the
    next few months.

One client has sent us the following questions; we are not sure how to answer and would
appreciate any help we can get.

"We will be using Virtuozzo Containers technology which is a container-based Operating
System virtualization technology which enables a physical server to run multiple
independent instances of an operating system or virtual environments (VEs).  This is the
operating system environment we want to install applications into when possible, going
    forward.
    1. Will your application support

1.. native Windows 64 bit OS or
2.. Windows x64 WOW (Windows on Windows) or
        3.. Windows 32 bit

    2. Is your application supported in a virtualized environment?"

    That's it. Thank you.

  • Hi,

This forum is dedicated to Windows Server 2008 application compatibility and certification related issues.

However here are my updates on your issues.

    1.       I believe it will support all three.

    2.       SQL 2005 will run on the virtual environment. For more information please take a look at http://www.microsoft.com/sql/techinfo/whitepapers/virtenviron.mspx.

    Hope the above helps.

    Thanks
