Cannot install SQL Server 2016 - Really annoying errors Windows 10 Pro

    Question

  • Hello All,

Recently I purchased a new HDD since I was running out of space on the 1TB drive, so for this reason I removed all the non-games to the new HDD which is a 500GB HDD. Drive labelled A:

Now SQL Server has really annoyed me over the past two days, I believe it was corrupted by user profile twice!! and now I can't bloody install it. I really require this for my UNI work.

    Here is the summary log:

Yesterday I did manage to install it at some point but was getting these errors: (From event viewer). I couldn't start SQL Service.

Initializing the FallBack certificate failed with error code: 1, state: 20, error number: 0.

TDSSNIClient initialization failed with error 0x80092004, status code 0x80. Reason: Unable to initialize SSL support. Cannot find object or property.

TDSSNIClient initialization failed with error 0x80092004, status code 0x1. Reason: Initialization failed with an infrastructure error. Check for previous errors. Cannot find object or property.

Could not start the network library because of an internal error in the network library. To determine the cause, review the errors immediately preceding this one in the error log.

SQL Server could not spawn FRunCommunicationsManager thread. Check the SQL Server error log and the Windows event logs for information about possible related problems.

This is really irritating. On my previous HDD I did have SQL Server 2014, now using 2016 and it's an absolute pain to do a clean reinstall.

Anyone know the solutions to these issues?

  • I reinstalled SQL SERVER 2014. I'll stick with that for now. I tried installing SQL Server and setting NT AUTHORTIY\System as account but still didn't work.

    Thanks for help anyway.

  • It seems like SQL Server is installed but due to the reason of TDSSNIClient initialization failed with error 0x80092004, status code 0x1 it is not coming online.

Can you try small workaround can you go to SQL Server configuration manager and try changing SQL Server service account to NT Authority\System and start service with this account, tell me whether you fail or succeed.

If you do not see SSCM go to services and try from their

  • I don't think it installed properlty SQLCM did not run so I tried from services. I got this error when starting service.

  • I would suggest instead of fixing these small issue go ahead and completely uninstall SQL Server and do a fresh install. This time make sure you give NT Authority\system as service account for SQL Server. Let me know if you have issues uninstalling it

Sorry, I should have stated that I have actually done this countless times. but I run into same issues. The problem with this software is that it leaves a lot of junk behind in registry and across drives.

How can I do a complete clean uninstall then?

  • Ok so go ahead and first remove SQL Server from add remove program and then follow below method.

Note: Removing necessary registry entries might cause SQL Server instance to crash so backup registry before doing changes.

    • 1. Uninstall the existing SQL Server  and all the components from the add remove program.
    • 2. Backup the registry Jump .
    • 3. Delete the following keys using regedit:
      • --HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server
      • --HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSSQLServer
    • 4. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall and delete all the sub-keys referencing SQL Server.
    • 5. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services and delete all the keys referencing SQL Server.
    • 6. Rename all the SQL Server folders in the computer.
    • 7. Reboot the machine.
