Problem with owc11 with fresh installation of VS2012, win 7 and office 2013 64bit RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have reinstalled my system with Windows 7, Visual Studio 2012, Office 2013 64-bit, IE 10. I am responsible for support of one of our legacy application which uses OWC11. I have installed owc11 with a success but whenever i tried to use it in a project then i got yellow mark that there is some error. While i am trying to build an application i get:

Could not resolve COM reference "0002e558-0000-0000-c000-000000000046" version 1.0. Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

I was trying to use dependency walker  for owc11.dll and got info about following libraries missing:

    API-MS-WIN-CORE-COM-L1-1-0.DLL
    API-MS-WIN-CORE-WINRT-ERROR-L1-1-0.DLL
    API-MS-WIN-CORE-WINRT-L1-1-0.DLL
    API-MS-WIN-CORE-WINRT-ROBUFFER-L1-1-0.DLL
    API-MS-WIN-CORE-WINRT-STRING-L1-1-0.DLL
    API-MS-WIN-SHCORE-SCALING-L1-1-0.DLL
    DCOMP.DLL
    GPSVC.DLL
    IESHIMS.DLL

My colleagues with similar setup (Win7, VS 2012, Office 2013 32bit IE 8) does not have any problem with owc11.dll)

If you do not own an Office 2003 license, the Office Web Components are licensed to be used in static, non-interactive, client-side, view-only mode.  If you do own an Office 2003 license, the Office Web Components are licensed to be used in interactive mode.

Besides, you can take refer to

  • Yuri thank you for your answer, but as i mentioned in my post i have installed OWC 2003, but it does not work on my specific environment.

This is legacy project which works and use owc and we do not have any issues with it.

The only problem is that cannot be used (referenced in visual studio) on my computer. And Dependency Walker show that the system does not have required libraries which are not installed with OWC.

So my question is, do i have to install something to make it work? Whats the root cause of the problem? Is it an IE10 problem or 64 bit office problem?

  • Hi,

Even I'm getting the same problem. I have add the reference for OWC components but there is some yello mark over there.

Could not resolve COM reference "0002e558-0000-0000-c000-000000000046" version 1.0. Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Can you please help me to resolve all these?

  • Hello,

Please take a look at the similar forum thread - Microsoft office web Components not working with Visual Studio 2012 .

  • the short answer

"Office Web Components is a deprecated technology and is no longer  under active development. Hence we advise you to move to Excel  services from OWC. This is documented in below articles

    http://blogs.office.com/b/microsoft-excel/archive/2006/07/17/office-web-components-roadmap.aspx

    "

deprecated means that it is not being supported in newer products and you will need to code a different solution.
