Creating a custom navigation SP2013 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I would like to create a custom navigation for my custom master page. I don't fully understand how the meta terms work, and I don't want to create static links.

What I am after is to create a global navigation for a team site, with links to my pages I have created on the same site.

What is the best way to do this?

  • For custom navigation you can do following:-

    1) Create a custom list with following columns

ID, Menu title, URL, Parent ID, Active, Description

    2) Create a user control and in c# code you can read the list data and build the menu hierarchy using for loop, you can apply css accordingly, and add the menu items based on the parent id to build the drill down menu

    3) Add the user control on master page

  • Thankyou for the reply.

I will be sure to test it out.

I found another way to achieve my task using the term store and the global navigation snippet.
