KML File Size Limit RRS feed

  • Question

  • What is the kml file size limit?

How many files can you upload to maps.live.com?

How many polygons can you have in your kml? I saw somewhere like at most 200 ?

If you have VE License, is there a difference in the kml file size? and do you upload your kml to maps.live.com or elsewhere? Because, maps.live.com is for free so there might be a limit?

    Thanks!

  • I'm not certain on the file size limit, but I believe there is a limit of ~200 shapes that can be stored in a KML. Any more shapes and they will not appear on the map. Having a license for VE does not change the kml file size limit. An alternative to using KML to store your data is to use the customer service site for VE. This allows you to store your data in a database type environment. You can then use mappoint which is included in your VE license to query your data. Another alternative to get around the limits of KML is to convert your KML's to GeoRSS using the tool provided here: http://rbrundritt.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!E7DBA9A4BFD458C5!192.entry I have been able to able to convert large (30MB+, 25,000+ shapes) kml's to GeoRSS and render them on VE, mind you performance suffered.
