Good server setup for TFS 2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, I know is may be a bit of a bumb question but I've been asked to put together the hardware requirements for a rollout of TFS 2010. We have a small team of 20 or so developers but we want the implementation to be scalable so we can possibly integrate other teams. We also need DR.  We are using virtualisation for our servers so I was thinking a virtual server for the application tier. This will have full DR. The data tier will sit on a SQL instance in our SQL server farm which has full replication and DR. SSRS and SSAS will sit on the application tier along with the default sharepoint install that TFS comes with. Does this sound ok? Would you recommend a seperate build server? Thank, any advice or thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi,

This sounds fine...It will be good if you can have a separate build server.

Btw...Below is the suggested hardware requirements.

    Number of users

    Configuration

    CPU

    Memory

    Hard disk

    Fewer than 250 users

Single-server (Team Foundation Server and the Database Engine on the same server).

1 single core processor at 2.13 GHz

    2 GB

    1 disk at 7.2k rpm (500 GB)

    250 to 500 users

    Single-server.

1 dual core processor at 2.13 GHz

    4 GB

    1 disk at 10k rpm (500 GB)

    500 to 2,200 users

Dual-server (Team Foundation Server and the Database Engine on different servers).

This row is for Team Foundation Server.

1 dual core Intel Xeon processor at 2.13 GHz

    4 GB

    1 disk at 7.2k rpm (500 GB)

This row is for the Database Engine with 500 to 2,200 users.

1 quad core Intel Xeon processor at 2.33 GHz

    8 GB

Dual drives or drive arrays, 2 disks at 10k rpm SAS (292 GB) and 17 disks at 10k rpm SAS (2.4 TB)

    2,200 to 3,600 users

    Dual-server.

This row is for Team Foundation Server.

1 quad core Intel Xeon processor at 2.13 GHz

    8 GB

    1 disk at 7.2k rpm (500 GB)

This row is for the Database Engine with 2,200 to 3,600 users.

2 quad core Intel Xeon processors at 2.33 GHz

    16 GB

Dual drives or drive arrays, 2 disks at 10k rpm SAS (292 GB) and 17 disks at 10k rpm SAS (2.4 TB)
