How to create installation package for Micro soft Robotics project RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi
    I am working on microsoft robotics project , I have created an application for connecting to robot and accessing robot services
    I have successfully created this and application is working properly.But when I have created a click once set up through visual studio 2005 then it is creating a setup and I have installed this set up to on my machine But when I have click on "File-->Connect to Robot"  menu and I have select XML file throgh open file dialoge box then it is going into Un-Ending or Not Responding mode.
    Same code is running in MS Robotics studio sample 4.But the exe is not working.

    Please help me for how can I create setup( Installation package) that will work properly.

    Thanks and Regards

  • You don't just double-click on dsshost to run it. That was the point I was trying to make in my previous posting.

    Also the commands you list are confusing. You talk about ServiceTutorial123.exe but none of the commands create this package. Also, the DssDeploy /u command must be run on the OTHER computer, but you don't mention this in your list of commands.

    Try this:

    Code Snippet

    1. Create your DssDeploy package on the development computer.

    2. On the other computer, create a folder C:\MSRS

    3. Copy the DssDeploy package into this folder.

    4. Run the DssDeploy package on your other computer. (You can double-click on it in Windows Explorer or run it from a DOS command prompt). It should create a folder called C:\MSRS\bin which contains dsshost.exe plus a whole lot of DLLs.

    I think you have gotten this far before.

    5. Make sure that you have the correct manifest, or manifests, and if necessary the config file(s). Copy all of these into the new C:\MSRS\bin folder. They might be in C:\MSRS\samples\config, but copy them to the bin folder anyway.

    6. Open a DOS Command prompt and change directory so that you are in the C:\MSRS\bin folder. The command prompt should look like:

    C:\MSRS\bin>

    7. Type in the command:

    dsshost /p:50000 /t:50001 /m:whatever-manifest-you-need-to-use

    Obviously, I am not sure of your manifest name, but it looks like ServiceTutorial1.manifest.xml.

    Now watch carefully and read all of the messages from DssHost. Just saying that "it does not work" does not help me to solve your problem. If you can, capture all of the output in the DOS command window and post the output here.

  • Have you looked at DssDeploy? You need to have MSRS installed on the target machine, or let DssDeploy install the runtime for you.

  • Let me make sure I understand you clearly. You created a DssDeploy package, then you took ServiceTutorial123.exe to another computer and ran it. Right?

    What do you mean that when you run dsshost "it does nothing"? It must do something or at least display an error message.

    You have to start your service the same way as you would normally, i.e. dsshost /p:50000 /t:50001 /mTongue Tiedome-manifest

    Make sure that the manifest is in an appropriate location. You can copy it into the bin folder on the other computer if you want to. Then open a command prompt, change directory to the bin folder, and run the appropriate dsshost command. It must do something!

  • Thanks Trevor

    yes I created a DssDeploy package, then I took ServiceTutorial123.exe to  same computer and ran it.When I ran it ,
     this exe then extracts file from this exe file in a different  folder and I get "dsshost" exe with other dlls in this newly folder.

    When I double click on
    dsshost it just open a command window for a second and close it.

    I have ran the following commands
    dssdeploy /p /m:"samples\config\ServiceTutorial1.manifest.xml" ServiceTutorial1.exe

    dssdeploy /p /m:"samples\Config\ServiceTutorial1.manifest.xml" /m:"samples\Config
    \ServiceTutorial2.manifest.xml" ServiceTutorials1-2.exe

    dssdeploy /p /m:"samples\Config\ServiceTutorial1.manifest.xml" /m:"samples\Config
    \ServiceTutorial2.manifest.xml" /d:"documentation\introduction.htm" ServiceTutorial1-2-css.exe

    dssdeploy /u /t:%TEMP%\ServiceTutorial1 ServiceTutorial1.exe

    cd /d "%TEMP%\ServiceTutorial1"
    bin\dsshost /p:50000 /m:"samples\config\servicetutorial1.manifest.xml"

    Is this correct ? If not please tell me the steps to create setup for MS Robotics
    project with vb.net in details .

    Is their any other way to create set up for robotics project ,what could be the problem in
    set up created through vb.net 2005.

    Please help me for the same .

    Please give me your chat ID if possible.

    Thanks and Regards

  • Another thing I just noticed is that you showed a command using a simulation manifest in an earlier post. DssDeploy can't be used to move simulation services because it does not copy the simulator. The simulator requires XNA, DirectX and the Ageia Physx engine to run. The easiest way to get all of these installed is to install MSRS!

    So are you trying to migrate a simulation or a service for a real robot?

  • Your question was

    So are you trying to migrate a simulation or a service for a real robot?

    I am using both.

    Now what could be the best solution to create a setup in these circumstances.

    Please let me know.

    Waitingfor your feedback

    Thanks

  • I have resolve this problem coming on my previos post, now the command is running successfully when I have ran
    C:\MSRS\bin>dsshost /p:50000 /t:50001 /m:LEGO.NXT.Tribot.Simulation.manifest.xml

    Command successfully ,but when when it run it only lanches simulation window . It does not produce any form (Robot Control.vb ) to control the robot .

    Thanks and Regards

  • It looks like you copied all of the manifests. That was not really necessary :-)

    The reason you only get the simulation is because you only specified the Tribot simulation manifest on the command line. You also need to specify the manifest for your program by adding another /m:your-manifest-name to the command line. With all those manifests I don't know which one is your program.

  • Dear Trevor

    Thanks for the feedback .

    Client wants that MSRS should install with instalation package on any machine.I can not install MSRS on another computer because MSRS will also be the part of the installation package.So what could be the best solution .Please read the following steps carefully and give be possible suggession.

    I have done following steps
    (1)
    I have ran the following command  on my own system
    dsshost /p:50000 /t:50001 /m:"samples\Config\LEGO.NXT.Tribot.Simulation.manifest.xml"
    Following output appeared in command window

    * Service uri: [02/27/2008 14:12:15][http://comp83:50000/directory]
    * Service uri: [02/27/2008 14:12:16][http://comp83:50000/constructor/daf843a8
    -c0db-41cb-b383-bc7ddc2e9ce1]
    * Starting manifest load: file:///C:/Microsoft%20Robotics%20Studio%20(1.5)/sam
    ples/Config/LEGO.NXT.Tribot.Simulation.manifest.xml [02/27/2008 14:12:16][http:/
    /comp83:50000/manifestloaderclient]
    * Manifest load complete [02/27/2008 14:12:17][http://comp83:50000/manifestloa
    derclient]
    No physics hardware present, using software physics.
    * Service uri: [02/27/2008 14:12:20][http://comp83:50000/simulateddifferentia
    ldrive/2ecaf77a-6331-4062-aedb-0ef8f94d837d]
    * Service uri: [02/27/2008 14:12:20][http://comp83:50000/simulatedbumper/c0ae
    201a-be6d-4161-86eb-fc340193465c]

    Then it Opened the Microsoft visual simulation Environment.
    But Iam unable to understand that how I will control the robot because their is no "robotcontrol .vb" form to drive the robot.

    (2)
     Next to this is that
    I have tried it on other computer too.Suggested by you then I have got the following error

    C:\MSRS\bin>dsshost /p:50000 /t:50001 /m:"LEGO.NXT.Tribot.Simulation.manifest.xm
