Adding Text to a Column

Question

I am relatively new to SharePoint but have just become the administrator for my group at work. Just recently, I created a new column to add descriptions for our folders. I am not sure how to add text to these columns though. Please advise. Thank you!

When you create a new folder, you should be able to add the description to the new column, if it is added to the  Folder content type.

Hello SamWD1989,

Unfortunately you can not directly add description to library folder. As a workaround, create a new column in library and then add description to it. But this column will be available for all folder as well as files.

Second way is, create custom content type and add site column to this content type. Follow the steps as mention in below thread:
