Win Embedded 7 - Preserve a shortcut to the destop RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a Win Embedded 7 device, Zebra MC92XX. I create a shortcut on the desktop to my application in the applications folder and when the unit is cold booted the shortcut disappears. Many of the other custom settings a preserved through an export process but I cannot find how to export or preserve the newly created shortcut. Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • Assuming that you mean Win Embedded Compact, you will need to recreate them on boot.  I am not familiar with Zebra devices, but I am fairly sure that they allow you to save an app and run it on boot.  You will want to use that to create your shortcuts.

  • Bruce,

Yes it is Win Embedded Compact. If i'm reading your answer correctly, I'm not trying to auto run the app on boot. Just putting a shortcut to the app on the desktop.

  • Yes, but if the root is not persisted, neither will your shortcuts.

Try to create a file in the root of your device (so in Explorer in "\") and reboot. If the file is not there next reboot it means the root of your device is not mounted on a storage medium and that's why your desktop shortcut also isn't persisted between boots (so you will have to recreate it at boot, or when your application runs and detects it is not there).

    Good luck,
