Auditing for SQL Server 2000 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have enabled auditing in our SQL Server 2012 production environment by using 'Server Level Audit' & 'Database Level Audit'. We have a production environment which runs under SQL Server 2000. Is auditing available in that version?

The feature you mention was added in SQL 2008. In SQL 2000 you can use Profiler trace and triggers.

  • You may find that custom audit triggers will be a better fit - however they will only capture write activity (inserts, updates, and deletes). they will not capture select statements and will need to be crafted for each table you wish to audir. Running a trace can cause considerable performance degradation on your system - triggers have their own cost too.
