HTTPS website is not working on Azure VM's IIS Server

    Question

  • I have an azure VM where I have hosted all my web sites and they are working well in HTTP protocol.

Now I want to use SSL certificate from Let's Encrypt Authority X3 for one of my website (http://pos.xpertmemo.com ). I have used "Certify the Web" helper tool to setup the certificate (previously I have successfully installed and run HTTPS on Rackspace's Private Cloud Server). I have checked and found that my certificate is installed and have binding information in my website's binding list. I have added Inbound rule for port 443 on azure portal under my VM networking as well as I have created inbound rule in my VM's Firewall. After setting all, the website is not working in HTTPS mode but it works in HTTP mode. When I try it using HTTPS mode, it prompt Windows Security credential window.

Please help me to resolve the issue.

  • I have found the problem.

On my VM, Windows Admin Center was installed and that's why all the https request redirected to Windows Admin Center portal and prompts for credential input. After uninstalling the Windows Admin Center, all the HTTPS site stated to work.

  • Thank you for posting the solution that worked for you! It would benefit other users experiencing a similar issue. Since the question is related to hosting a website on an Azure VM and not specific to Azure App service, I have moved the thread to the targeted forum.
