Is WindowsRuntime for Metro only? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Since WindowsRuntime is a collection of Windows APIs, can I use WindowsRuntime to build a non-metro application? Is Windows Runtime for Metro only?

    Thanks.

  • WinRT is usable also from classic processes (Desktop apps). However only those that ship in Win8 (also some of them might not be supported outside of Metro - check their documentation). Custom WinRT components are supported only in Metro process.

  • WinRT is only available for Metro-style apps, Desktop applications are not able to use these APIs.
