... http://yadayadayada/. A generic form template will be used instead.

I keep getting this error when I'm publishing an IP form into our site. I click the OK button and go to the doc lib where the form has been published. Everything looks fine. I then enable "Display as Web Page" in the doc lib settings. I created a Publishing Page with XMLFormView web part to host the form in. After working through a few of the issues with the XMLFormView web part, I am able to show the form in the web part, but the formatting is off. I have a "Submit" and "Reset" button at the bottom of my form, but in the web part page, they show up in the middle of the screen and overlap some of the existing form fields. Any thoughts on why this is happening?

  • I realize that your question is about 3 1/2 years old, but it came up in a google search when I was trying to figure out the same thing.

The reason why this happens is because SharePoint Publishing sites don't have the "Team Collaboration Lists" feature turned on by default. Apparently this feature allows you to create form libraries. Without it you can only create document libraries. While InfoPath will *let* you publish the first time to a document library, you will have allllll sorts of crazy issues with it after the fact. Document libraries are NOT intended to house InfoPath forms.

Go into Site Settings>Site Features> Activate "Team Collaboraton Lists"

You will need to republish your form into a Form Library. Worst case scenario, go to the document library that is housing the offending form and click "Open with Explorer" on the library tab in the ribbon. Find the "Forms" folder and extract the template.xsn file. You can then republish it to its own form library and your problems should be solved.

Hope this helps someone along the way!

  • Saved the day - 5 years after the original question!

This little gem was left out of Microsoft's own training book - makes it pretty difficult when you're trying to learn Sharepoint & Infopath :(
