When to use System.AddIn RRS feed

  • Question

  • We need to create a validation tool in As of now tool has three features but later on more would be added. The architecture should be designed in such a way that existing code should not be modified.

What kind of design pattern do we need to use? I was going through many articles on Adapter Pattern and System.AddIn namespace. Can anyone help and suggest.

  • I would take a look at MEF instead

There is even a rules engine based on it, I've no idea if it's any good but there are plenty of examples of using MEF to solve this sort of a problem. BTW A number of the examples will be for Silverlight but don't let that you put you off, it is NOT a Silverlight only feature

  • Maybe I've misunderstood.

    When you say validation tool.

    You mean custom validation controls?

Don't you only need to change code which would use a custom validator?  But you'd need to change whichever code used them - so I don't really get the advantage of making them a plug in.
