Custom Help File or User-Form? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Simply enough I have a large set of macros that are simple yet would be nice to have documentation sent with them. My main goal was to just throw a user-form into my custom toolbar and have users click when they need help. This became tedious as the formatting for user forms is horrendous.

I then attempted to use HTML Help workshop from Microsoft to create a custom help file yet my knowledge of how to do that was limited and it ended up not working at all.

So here I am lost and out of ideas. I know the user-form works but its sloppy and not appealing to my users, I want a clean nice looking help file that is easy to access. Most of my users are tech-savvy but I'd rather them not have to go and debug any of my macros instead just rely on the help file to see whats wrong.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, or if someone has more knowledge into HTML help workshop (I know wrong place to ask).

    Just for reference I have

12 Macros ( Only 10 would requires a help file)

4 User-Forms (Each with a small built in help, would be nice to have a larger one)

  • HI Jake,

You may try to have the customized Project Add in where you can have a button on ribbon under a tab for help & use the forms in that. You can have the static data in that. While PM's install the Add in, you will have all of your custom help content loaded in Add in.

Please see below article that might help you.

    Hope that helps.

  • This does help but trying to type help documentation into user-forms feels impossible. They have no formatting what so ever which forces me to type in short statements that may leave my users confused. I guess I need to learn a little html and just make a custom help file.
