MS Project - Excel Link overwriting Task Mode RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

I have set up a dynamic link between MS Excel 2016 and MS Project 2016.
The project has @180 sub-tasks and @ 40 Summary tasks.
Each task is bringing across 8 fields of information.
The data per se comes across OK.

I have three issues / items where I need help and feedback

    1.  Task Mode
The task mode is set to manual initially.  I link the data, and all looks OK

I then go through and set some (@75%) of the sub-tasks to "Auto Scheduled" mode.
    Looks good at this point.

However - as soon as the next update between Excel & Project happens - ALL the tasks have their task mode set back to "Manual".    So I then have to go back and reset

Why?   How can I stop this overwrite of Task Mode?

Note that "Task Mode"  is not a linked / imported column.

I have tried using MS Project in "manual calculation" mode - but that didn't help.

    2.  The the actual link process seems very long.
As in, as mentioned the data above is not very much data to transfer really.
But seems to be taking @ 5 mins each time the link is updated. So, is this really this slow / awkward?

    3.  Is setting the calculation mode to "manual" the correct way to control the link?
Or is there  a better / different way to configure this so it only does the update when I want it to be done?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Hugh,

Please change your default task mode to Auto Scheduled and see what happens.
