Install Exchange 2010 to remote site only for online archive

Hello all,

Here is my questions.

I have two Exchange 2010 servers (one CAS and HUB, one MAILBOX) in remote site(Data Center). (site to site link speed 20G)

Users are using remote CAS for access their mailbox.

I am going to build additional Exchange 2010 just for online archive. (Just mailbox role)

but there is error message during install 

Warning:
Setup did not detect an existing Hub Transport server role installed in Active Directory site 'site-name'. Mail cannot be sent or received from this mailbox server until a Hub Transport role is installed.

Warning:
Setup didn't detect an existing Client Access server role installed in Active Directory site 'site-name'. Outlook Web App and Exchange ActiveSync mobile phone access won't be available until a Client Access role is installed.

Do I have to build CAS and HUB just for online archive?

Also If I install 3 roles to one server, user's still can use remote CAS for access their inbox or use local CAS for access exchange?

this is by design

in each site which has needs to have mailbox server must need to have a HUB and CAS server.

You can have all the three server HUB and CAS but don't use them and don't publish the CAS.

I'd say use them as a backup in case of your primary server goes down?

why do you want to have Archive on the off-site location ?

You can think about setting up a DAG / Stretched DAG utilizing your remote site.
