Is there a way to launch a background application (console app) and monitor its exit code from within a windows metro javascript app? Or is there a way to utilize the windows speech API from within metro style Javascript apps? http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=27225

There is no in-box speech API provided for Metro style apps.
