Maintenance Plan running Twice RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am seeing a peculiar thing with a server. There is a maintenance plan to backup system databases that runs at 7PM everyday. But, the SQL Error log shows the databases are being backed up twice everyday with seconds difference (approx. 3s). The SQL Agent job history shows that the job has succeeded, but, the SQL Logs show a few system database's backups have failed.

The SQL Server Instance is 2005 SP4. This doesn't happen for the User database maintenance plan.

    Maintenance Plan set up:

All System databases backup, with a backup file creation for each database, the backups go to a remote location. The verify backup integrity is checked.

It would be very helpful if someone can spot what exactly is happening with the instance. There are no clues, that can be found from either SQL Logs or Event Viewer.

Also, the backup that failed reported the error as:

"The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process."
