version control for unversioned files RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I work with a web application where I have few components developed using vb, few using ASP.Net , few using VC++ , few ASP pages, few ASP.Net pages etc.

There is no versioning done uptil now for all this files.

Now we are in need of implementing version control.

How can we proceed on it any idea? Anyone please help.

  • You could use visual sourcesafe. I assume you mean code version control.

You can use the four part version string format(ex . 1.1.2.x) .

    Label the versions accordingly.

  • Hi,

We do use Visual Source Safe.

I am talking about version stamping on files.

For VB - we go to project->properties and give version.

For VB.Net we handle it through Assembly Info file.

But when both the things are in system how do we handle it in a generalised way?

  • Where do you want to control the versions, Is it during deployment? so that you can check for a particular version and overwrite?
