  • Hi

We are using vehicle tracking system and need to show vehicle moving on a route in animation using bing map.

Already showing the routes between coordinates with lines. Need to show a vehicle moving through the line between the coordinates using animation. I tried the code as shown in https://blogs.bing.com/maps/2014/08/07/bring-your-maps-to-life-creating-animations-with-bing-maps-javascript/

But I am not able to view the simple animation like hover and zoom pushpin as mentioned in the site. Am I missing some references for this animation.

  • Hi codebell562,

Are you tracking the actual vehicle location and just want to move the pin or are you wanting animation like in the blog?  My assumption would be that your fleet would report your location and you would want to show those locations on a map to a dispatcher.  For this you probably wouldn't want animation, rather you would want to use change events or timed refreshes to update the map.

    Sincerely,

  • Hi IoTGirl

    Thanks for your reply

I don't want to show the live movement of vehicle. I am showing the route in which vehicle traveled on a given date based on the coordinates received. I want to show the vehicle movement on the highlighted routes like an animation through multiple coordinates.

  • Hi Codebell,

There is another thread on why the V7 animation does not work in V8 maps and you can see it here:

    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/expression/en-US/ade50d65-2ecf-425e-8bec-7c93f0227f7b/animated-gif-pushpin-support-for-bing-maps-v8?forum=bingmapsajax

Bing Maps V8 offers an animation layer to cover these scenarios and it might work well for you if you are planning to leverage historical data to animate routes.  The sample shows weather movement at https://www.bing.com/api/maps/sdkrelease/mapcontrol/isdk/weatherradarmap

What type of app are you writing?  Maybe starting with  http://bingmapsv8samples.azurewebsites.net/#Continuous%20Tracking%20and%20Routing would make more sense?

It is currently designed to take an event but you could replace that with an animation event rather than a true routing event.  If you look at the top right corner you can go to the source code in GitHub for review.

    Sincerely,

    IoTGirl
