How GAL Search Command could query by MobilePhone number? RRS feed

Answers

  • Caroline,

This is not possible.  GAL search works by using the ambiguous name resolution (ANR) logic within Exchange.  This logic works on recipient names and email addresses only.  The specification for the Search command, specifically the Query element (MS-ASCMD 2.2.3.119) states:

"All nonempty text properties in the GAL that are indexed by using ANR are compared with the
Query element value. Search comparisons are performed by using case-insensitive matching. "

  • Tom,

I've been looking into creating a Reverse Number Lookup app for Android and looked into the different protocols and as you said, you cannot search search by phone number using the MS-ASCMD protocol.  That being said, is there another protocol that would let me search LDAP/GAL by phone number?  Maybe something with Exchange 2010 that isn't available in older versions?

  • Hi Mike,

Unfortunately EWS doesn't support this either.  However, using LDAP or NSPI will allow this.  It is important not to use LDAP if you intend to use Address Book Policies starting with E14 Service Pack 2.  However, NSPI versus exchange 14 SP2 servers will work.
