Visual Studio Emulator for Android cannot start

    Question

  • Hi,

I'm running Visual Studio 2015 update 3 and have installed Hyper-V and Visual Studio Emulator for Android. I've gone into the Visual Studio Emulator for Android tool and try and run the the device profile but it fails to start and show this in the logs.

  • Hi Richard_White,

Please check whether there has more information about the Visual Studio Android Emulator from Windows Event Viewer. Then share the information here.

And please try below steps which can help us confirm whether this issue caused by Android SDK installation, Hyper-V, or XdeCleanup.exe.

    1. Repair Android SDK - go to Programs and Features > Microsoft Visual  Studio Emulator for Android > Change and hit "Repair".
    2. Remove All Hyper-V virtual switches - go to Hyper-V > Virtual  switch manager > Remove all virtual switches.
    3. Run XdeCleanup.exe which often under path "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft  XDE\10.0.10240.0".
    4. If you have configured Internet connection sharing on Ethernet adapter before, please disable it.

In addition, following thread introduce how to troubleshoot the Visual Studio Emulator for Android. Hope it can help you.

  • Since Richard did not respond, can't know if he succeeded, but I have the exact same issue, and unfortunately these steps did not work for me.  I had already been through the link you provided as well.

However, after trying the above steps, the error message did become more diagnostic, where previously I was seeing failure with XDE Exit Code 0,  I now see XDE Exit Code: CouldntCreateInternalSwitch (16).3> 9/9/2016 9:50:06 AM : [Informational] Preparing virtual machine...

I've had a systems engineer look and he could not spot the issue either.  I will post back if I find a solution.
