Multiple Team Project Collections RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am about to migrate a large code base from two of our vendors in-house to a new TFS 10 installation.

The codebase consists of BizTalk Source Code from one Vendor and Web Development from another.

I was initially going to create two Team Collections 1.) BizTalk 2.) Web Development

Rethinking this over it might be wise to create one Collection (or use the default collection) and then create two different Team Projects in the collection as the inherent nature of any future Web development will most likely have a BizTalk component so this would allow for collaboration between the different teams (work items etc..)

    Thoughts?

    Cheers

  • Hi,

If the source codes/ workitems will be shared in future, creating one Project Collection with multiple Team Projects is a better option.

Source code could be branched/merged between 2 Team Projects in a Project Collection. But source codes could not be shared between Project Colletions, each Project Colletion has its own version control structure.

Work Item Link is very useful in TFS2010, which could help you to manage your tasks. A Work Item could link to another one in the same Project Collection, and could not link to one that in another Project Colletion.

  • Hi Ruiz,

Thanks for the feedback, sounds good!

I will go with the one "Project Collection" solution and then just restrict user access per Team Project

    Thanks!

    Cheers
