mediaplayer mp.Open no longer working. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Fixed, duff SDRAM chip.

    RAM check comes out ok but removing 4gb chip and leaving in 8GB chip problems go away.

    My pc recently did a Windows update and now my music player doesn't.

    It has worked for many years fine.

    Its written in C# .net wpf.

    It gets stuck at the mp.open command.

    Then gets stuck in a loop trying to get the length of music.

            currentfname.Text = fname;
            if (File.Exists(fname) == true)
            {
                mp.Open(new Uri(fname, UriKind.Relative)); //doesn't cause exception if file not found.
                mp.Play();
                mediaendedq = 0;
                        //save length of this track

                        //must wait until timespan is loaded !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
                        while (mp.NaturalDuration.HasTimeSpan == false)     ///gets stuck here always returns false.
                            ;

  • I have been having problems with blue screens too.

    I ran diagnostics on the hard drives and the memory.

    Both came out fine.

    For some reasons Windows updates wouldn't work.

    I seemed to have an old version of Windows on my PC.

    Visual Studio kept blue screening.

    Blue screens come up with different reason each time.

    I was going to replace Windows  10 and when I tried to make a Windows installation flash drive it always blue screened at 8% complete. I tried numerous times and always failed at 8%.

    In desperation I removed one of the memory sticks from the pc.

    It still blue screened.

    So put that one back removed the other.

    The PC has been fine since so it looks like a memory problem despite diagnostics saying it was OK.

  • Hi nigelwright7557,

    Thank you for posting here.

    It may be difficult to find the cause of problems caused by chip replacement or windows update.

    Because this code used to work normally, and now it's just stuck without any exceptions, I'm not sure how to start to solve the problem, after all we can't reproduce this problem.

    What I can do at present is to provide an example of another media player. I hope his code can give you some inspiration.
