How to find the local IP address of devices connected on the local network? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

In my application the user need to provide the IP address of a device connected on the Local Network.

There are two options to deal with it:

    1. To ask the user for the IP address of the device, or

    2. List all the devices on the Local Network and let the user select the right device.

I prefer the 2nd option, but don't know if it can be done and how to do it.

    Thanks,

  • hi eitan,

the second option is not possible with the winrt api at all. You can definitely ask the user for the ip address (you can even narrow the scope of the ip address to subnets using the IP address of the current device using network information).

As I was saying in the other thread of yours, you can try to ping all the machines in the subnet to find which are actually IPs in use but it would be quite inefficient.

I am not sure why this thread is duplicated though, you can definitely continue the other thread if you need additional information.
