Farm Based SharePoint Workflow requires Workflow Manager RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

We have requirement on creating old 2010 type farm based workflows using Visual Studio. I am trying to understand, if it is required to install and configure Workflow Manager for this situation? Or we can still live without Workflow Manager? As per my research Workflow Manager would be used only in case of those declarative workflows created from Visual Studio and deployed as Sandbox solution to the SharePoint.

    Thanks & Regards

  • Hi,

No, you no need to install and configure workflow manager if you are fine to use SharePoint 2010 workflow actually in SharePoint 2013 Workflow platform, the SharePoint 2010 Workflow platform that came with SharePoint Server 2010 is still available in SharePoint Server 2013. The SharePoint 2010 Workflow platform installs with SharePoint Server 2013 just as it did with SharePoint Server 2010. The end result is that there are two platforms to choose from when you build a workflow in SharePoint Server 2013.
