  • Depends on how you define without using the test runner. I assume you dont want to by a licens for MTM ?

In such case, No, there is no Non Test Manager out of tbe box solution from Microsoft to run/pass/fail test cases. You could use the TFS API to create testresults to testcases, or look for a 3:rd party tool or product like SELA Web Test Manager (http://www.sela.co.il/alm/products_WTM.html)

  • I actually have the licenses.  The problem is that using the test running takes time to start, uses system resources, and can have a lag when accessing across many time zones.  I was looking for a quick way to make tests passed or failed.

  • OK, as far as I know you have to do some codeing using the tfs api to quickly mark tests passed or failed. You will find some code exaple at this location http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6505812/how-to-create-a-test-run-and-result-using-the-team-foundation-server-api

By the way, If MTM is slow in starting test runner, have you installed SP1 and rollup bugfixes ? Have you moditored/verified TFS Server performance ?
If TFS Server has performance issues or you dont have the latest SP/bugfix for MTM, you can expiriens MTM to be really slow in some operations (like starting test runner)
