Boot problem

Question
-
Hi
I'm stuck with a rainbow colored screen when starting my Pi3, tried 3 different SD cards, all class 10 or better (45-90MB/s), 8-16GB. Tried several power supplies, now running with a 5V 5A lab supply. Tried different HDMI settings in the config file.
I've used IOTcoreImageHelper to burn the SD card.
Any ideas as to what might be the problem?Tuesday, March 28, 2017 6:42 AM

Solved it by updating Windows 10 on the machine where I run IoT Dashbord :-)

Dear friend,
I think that we don't have to change the HDMI settings in the config file.
The device will automatically fit the resolution of the display monitor.
I tried ScanDisk and Kingston TF card, and all of them work on my RPi3.
One more thing, did you use HDMI to VGA module to make the display. If so, please check that your module is power supplied.
Keep Fighting

I'm using a HDMI to DVI adapter, but the Rpi doesn't boot up even if I disconnect the screen.
[Edit]
Now tried to use the exact same setup (card and PS) but with Raspbian and that works fine, boots up ok.
So seems to be a problem with the OS or burn process...- Edited by AndyHaard Tuesday, March 28, 2017 2:53 PM

hello
is anything else connected to your Pi beside a Monitor ?
could you please try to use IoT Dashboard (https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/iot/Downloads) to create the SD card image for your Pi ?

Hi Andre
No, nothing else connected but monitor and Ethernet.
Tried that, doesn't work. Get error "Failed to unpack the Windows 10 IOT core installation package"
I'm logged on as administrator and are running it as administrator

Hi Andy,
The failed to unpack installer message indicates there is an issue with Windows launching an ISO image. Likely you have third party software that has re-assigned how *.iso is handled.
If you are logged in as an insider, you can download pre-release images here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windowsiot and use the "Custom" choice in the dashboard to provision the SD card.
Based on the discussion above I assume you have check the post at https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/6822434e-d8f3-439a-9584-1c9768d272d1/stuck-on-the-rainbow-screen?forum=WindowsIoT and that your Windows 10 Desktop has all updates applied. If the version of DISM does not match the card will also not provision correctly.
Sincerely,
IoTGirl
